Process for Individuals and Families
Giving Gap Analysis
Many families we work with are interested in being good stewards and want to maximize their charitable giving opportunities. They know they need to provide for their family and eventual heirs, and they wonder how much is enough for them and their family and how much “extra” they have that they could give to good causes they care about. The first step in our process is to determine if there is indeed a gap between what they are giving, and what they could be giving if they had a good plan that gave them peace of mind and confidence to give more.
Discovery Phase
We work very closely with the family and their advisors to uncover all the values, goals and objectives of the family. It is very important to know intimate details of what is important to the individual or couple and fully understand all that is needed to accomplish their goals. Our proprietary process we use to go deep is what we call our “Discovery Retreat” This can be from 2-8 hours of in-depth conversation to uncover what is most important. The information gathered is what is called the “soft side” of planning. It is all the non-financial information need to move forward. Only when we have this detailed information do we enter the next phase.
Analysis Phase
Once we have all the “soft side” and we collect all the financial information we can begin the analysis phase. We analyze the clients goals and objectives and their financial information to determine if they are on track. If not, we determine where they are off and give them a detailed financial plan with a comprehensive summary. We call our propriety process, “Planning with Purpose”. We analyze all 9 areas that every good plan should address.
Planning Phase
A full and complete analysis of the clients current situation now allows us to begin analyzing the changes that need to be made to achieve all the clients goals, especially the charitable giving goals. With an emphasis on philanthropy in every clients plan, we are able to bring considerable benefit to the client. Once they see that they can achieve all their lifestyle goals and still increase their giving, they are excited to move forward to the final phase.
Implementation Phase
A plan is useless if not implemented. In this phase we bring the clients advisory team together to implement all the legal, accounting, tax, investment, and charitable strategies together to create a beautiful masterpiece illustrating the power of strategic philanthropy. What a joy it is to see families embrace stewardship in all their planning and the impact it has on their life!
